Dec 31st, 2010 - Background.

Eating meat is what I know, what I have always known, and it has certainly become second nature.  For the first twenty-five years of my life, I was simply eating food not meat, well at least that is how I had been conditioned through the years by family, friends, and society. At 25, I finally realized that eating meat or dairy did not align with my personal beliefs or values, now that I finally knew what they were.  I am 35 now, and for the last ten years I have attempted to live a lifestyle without eating meat or dairy, been VERY unsuccessful. The longest I have lasted is 33 days without meat and that was last year.  Everyone who knows me would simply tell you that I could never do this, and I would probably do the same since my diet usually consists of burgers, ribs, steaks, sushi, chicken, the list goes on.  If I was stuck on an island without food for months, the first meal I would get is from Wendys - Double Bacon Cheeseburger, Large Fries, 5 piece nuggets, Chili, along with BBQ Sauce, and oh yea, Large Diet Coke.  That should explain my passion for eating such food.  Well Today is Dec 31st, 2010 and its time to do the impossible.  Starting tomorrow, I am going to attempt my first phase no meat, still doing dairy for now but no meat-  As hard as this is going to be, I thought it was only fair to keep everyone informed of my successes, failures, challenges, and miseries through this process-  Lets see how long this lasts... I have faith!  Thanks for everyone's support in advance, please support me instead of tempting me.

  3. I don't understand what your beliefs or values are? I would be very interested to hear more about how eating meat or dairy does not align with them, rather than hearing about your struggles with eating food created by the gods for the gods...

  4. ... also I would like to know the time line you have established to consider your challenge a success or failure? Are you planning on becoming a vegan for life, or just a year or so? What are your goals? Why are you depriving yourself of food? What is your agenda?

  5. These are all good questions.... and I can certainly give you answers, but I cant say that you will agree with them, but they will still be answers...

Values and beliefs are that I do not want to eat any other living thing, but the conditioning throughout my early years have always masked those reasons, and I never had a chance to think about it- once I did I knew where I stood, but due to that excessive conditioning it was just going to be very tough. Secondly, regarding success and failure? Well success is that I have to do this for ever...And just a correct as a first phase of this, I am not attempting to be vegan but that still includes dairy in my diet for now- But eventually will want to get there. Again conditioning plays a large part here.

For example, if today someone asked me to drink something coming out of an animal that we are not used to.... Everyone would be very reluctant but cows, goats, buffalo milk is acceptable simply because that is what we know.... at the beginning of time, someone who liked cow milk just pushed the idea, marketed it well, and it spread...

But that is irrelevant, my reasons for being a vegan is simply that I dont want to drink anything that comes out of another animal, because nobody would even drink or eat something that came out of a another human let alone an animal....

Just Singhs that make you go hhhmmmmmmm.....

  6. First, I am assuming that you don't think that plants are not living things. Is my assumption correct?
Secondly, I would still like to know what you plan to achieve by not drinking something coming out of an animal?
    Commenting on you last paragraph:
People drink fluids that come out of another humans all the time, as well as other animals. Milk is a perfect example, amongst other fluids...

  8. DISCLAIMER - Anything I say or share are simply my beliefs which means that, scientifically they can make zero sense and that is ok- And most of the time they will not be in agreement with what you believe which is also ok- The purpose is not to convince or convert but to simply share-

1 - In my world I dont see plants as living things, and I understand they are, and I have my own definition, this is a classic argument made against vegetarians-

2 - I am not trying to achieve anything by not drinking something out of an animal, and also I will not give you some intelligent or scientific reason why, instead I will tell you the truth- I think its absolutely disgusting....the concept not the taste- and If I cant get past the concept, the taste is not relevant-

Lastly, I think you may misunderstood my comment because I was multitasking when I wrote them... Let me sum it up- I was saying that we as humans would never want to drink or eat something that came out of another human (own mothers excluded), then how can we go and drink something from another species? LIke we would not go drink from a horse? Why not? Because that is what we do, not the norm.... just like people are mostly so afraid of eating frog, snake, deer, boar.... they almost react like that is such a crazy concept, but chicken, pork, beef, seafood is normal, why is that? Because of conditioning over generations....

    My two Cents...

  9. Your valiant attempt at becoming vegetarian in front of the world is commendable. I truly wish you well. BTW, those pics above are enough to put me off meat for at least a month! I do have to say, if you succeed, day after day, I will be happy for you. But, if you sneak in even one McNugget goodness (which seriously is a paradoxical concept), you have to 'fess up! And, I have to be allowed to laugh and maybe be allowed a few snarky jokes. One more comment about your blog setup....shabby chic background...never would have thought it of you!

  10. Perspective is a funny concept, because I wish I did not use these pictures, every time I open a blog and see those pics, makes me want to hit the nearest drive through, and still keep posting about veggie meals on the blog. I am glad you like the background, it was certainly not intentional, I just picked the first one that was recommended with the plan that I will change it later, but never happened..... Its growing on me now.
